Update Your Resume
Remember when resumes were one pagers updated only when job hunting?
Not anymore…
Meet LinkedIn - the social media platform that forever changed our professional image… and resume upkeep.
To make LinkedIn work for you: (1) Be active and (2) Build your network. Make sure your profile settings are up to date.
LinkedIn is all about growing a professional network. Be thoughtful, yet bold and request connections. Yet, beyond a network tool, the platform serves as a knowledge-sharing resource.
Top Tips for Your LinkedIn Profile
Create an “Intro” that is ALL YOU. From your profile and banner pics to your professional headline - make this uniquely YOU! A profile with a pic will be viewed 14x more than a a profile without a pic. Your headline appears in LinkedIn and Google search results - keep it below 120 characters but make it more than a job title. Customize your profile URL: www.linkedin.com/in/yourname.
Write your “About” as a story that includes core skills, industry-related words, achievements and ambitions, but be careful of over-used “buzzwords.”
“Featured”
Your “Activity” section allows you to share updates and content (including blogs or articles you have written). Don’t forget to include hashtags as they are known to be highly effective in LinkedIn. Comment on others’ posts.
In the “Experience”section, share your previous positions and key results.
In the “Education”section, include programs and schools.
Add “Licenses & Certifications,” “Projects,” “Volunteer Experiences, “Accomplishments,” and/or “Languages.”
Select your relevant strengths in “Skills & Endorsements.” Your colleagues will have the opportunity to endorse those strengths.
Request and give “Recommendations.”
Follow companies and groups that share your “Interests,” especially those that share your passions.
Add a “Company Page.”
