Raise Your Money Mood

Sometimes we just need to raise our money mood. Whether our emotions are high or we just feel a bit unmotivated, nothing raises our frequency like music and sound.

Research on its affect is quite compelling. Tunes tune our mind and body. They influence how we feel and act.

One of the most influential experiments I recall from years ago is the change in behavior that occurred after underground stations with high crimes piped in classical music. The result: 37% less vandalism, 33% less thefts and 25% less assaults within 18 months.

Neuroscience studies also support how music and sound has direct impact on the regions of the brain related to emotions. More specifically, songs with high frequency encourage our neural pathways to transmit more ‘feel good’ dopamines. One study found an overall improvement in mood within two weeks of listening music with high valence for 12 minutes per day.

The psychology and physiology of music and sound is also used to influence the way we shop. Retailers often play music to create an ambience that evokes impulse spending. They know how songs with a certain tempo, played at a specific volume, arouse our senses. Songs influence the way we think about our social identity, the way we feel about things, and the way we become more engaged in our surroundings… and act.

Music plays an integral part in our human experience, it’s time to integrate sound into our relationship with money.
